A VP of Software Engineering is required at a Global Enterprise Fintech business, crucially to help lead the architectural change of the company around its web development / product architecture. The role will be responsible for a team of 4 Development Managers for 30 – 50 developers and will mentor the teams to achieve exceptional code delivery rates, product development collaboration and cultural excellence, all on the back of the major changes to the architecture.
As a mature VP of Software Engineering, you will have a very strong software engineering background within complex systems and be technically strategic enough to problem solve the C# & Java oriented technical architecture legacy issues whilst also owning overall developmental process and production execution, working closely with the Product teams and reporting into the CTO.
Location: London, City
Salary: £105k – £130k + bonus + benefits
The VP of Software Engineering will have a keen technical mind, a Computer Science degree, ideally Masters, but most importantly the technical and strategic confidence to come in and provide architectural analysis and guidance on their fundamental core product system. You will have gone into a business (ideally B2B / Saas or Fintech) and driven fundamental change to scaled core product systems architecture previously. All the while, you’ll have been providing technical, cultural and strategic mentorship and process improvement within a technology driven organisation.
As well as this fundamental change, the VP of Software Engineering will direct a range of product development initiatives (both development and technical debt reduction / phase out) that will support the CTO with their technical roadmap, as well as provide smooth facilitation of product development with the Product Director. The chief goal will be to help develop established products, but on-board new products into the knowledge pool as well. You’ll be from a Platform / Marketplace background and understand how to give a brilliant user experience in connecting multiple entities on a platform / Saas product set.
Products centre around a large transactional enterprise platform that facilitates global transactions of both a document and financial nature, but involve multiple enterprise business software products associated.
As VP of Software Engineering, you’ll own the code production processes, develop strong product testing tools and have robust recruitment processes. You’ll shape a standardised coding approach to improve the knowledge pool. While the team do adhere to certain Agile principles, this will require revitalizing and a fresh approach to help reduce technical debt and improve standards using agile iterative releases. This will be about breaking rules on both sides of the Agile / Traditional divide to create process that suit the code production objectives.
While this change will be a long-term piece of work, the role will be responsible for adapting development practice for acquisitions and partner integrations moving forward, and will have a major hand in developing an already scaled business to what is planned to be a £500m turnover entity.
Established VP of Software Engineering having lead a Development team of 20+ in-house developers – you’ll likely have a C#.Net and some Java in your background; all applicants will be considered inspite of precise technical background, however.
Very strong, high-complexity, scaled Architectural / Engineering experience – technically qualified, capable and confident in guiding Architectural change to complex, transactional core systems (ideally C#.Net and Java) of a scaled, global, enterprise-level, business. NB: you’ll need to show ability of working within a smaller scale business (200+ previously too).
At least a Computer Science degree (or evidence of qualifications to this end), ideally a Masters / MSc in Computer Science in addition.
Strong B2B / Marketplace / Fintech / Saas platform background – exceptional user experience knowledge for multiple-entity connecting products.
Strong evidence of agile, product-collaborative R&D development practice advocacy, but from a scaled corporate as well as start-up, able to handle the corporate influence that comes with high growth.
