A Software Engineering Manager is required to lead technical design and squad-based capacity planning fora team of 8 Ruby-on-Rails and Perl developers. This Auto-Tech business provides the latest in green vehicles, supplying 1000 high-performance vehicles per month in the electric space. As Software Engineering Manager your team will develop customer facing systems on Ruby-on-Rails, with a range of internal systems set on Perl. There is appetite to deliver real change here, and you’ll be tasked with driving the technical design to factor out legacy as well as squad-based planning, including:

A major brand re-fresh

Security encryption for data at rest

Major migration and config

Salesforce Implementation

You’ll be looking to hire Ruby people in early on and the team will grow in this space.

Location: part remote – 2-3 days per week in the office in Watford.

Salary: £95k – £110k + company car allowance + bonus + health/pens + phone discounts + onsite gym + other lifestyle benefits.

You’ll be joining at a period of transition for the company, and as such be capable of parachuting into to senior developers projects to help out where necessary. You’ll work very closely with the CTO to incorporate your visions for technical design and project methods. As Software Engineering Manager, you’ll have been a Ruby-on-Rails developer previously, ideally with some hands-on experience recently, and be able to code review, develop Ruby-on-Rails Developers into strong Seniors (and seniors into Team Leads!) and run technical design / processes.

Essentials:

2 + years leadership experience of a team of 4+

Strong Ruby-on-Rails affinity, but technical agnostic to achieve commercial goals

Good technical design, project planning and mentoring exp.

Able to develop new services (e.g. microservices) architecture, sitting on AWS
